Hi, I’m Kerri Twigg and I teach people how to use creative drama to support children’s learning and development and explore real-life issues.
I lead creative drama workshops for children and adults in person and online. I design courses on integrating the creative arts into your child’s learning — whether in a traditional classroom or in alternative settings. I work one-on-one with teachers and parents as a creative curriculum consultant. Play drama is a powerful educational tool for creating learning experiences for youth to explore some of the toughest issues of our time; environmental destruction, abuses to animals and humans, and consumerism. These are all problems children will need to help find solutions for — shouldn’t they be comfortable working on real-world problems?
My mission
To see more creative, compassionate and confident people in this world.
I know adults that are scared to raise their voice or express an original idea. I create safe and creative learning experiences that bring out your brilliance, knowledge and creativity so your interactions with children are infused with passion, meaning and artfulness.
I believe that when you creatively imagine new worlds, create characters and confidently solve problems — you are an amazing human. A human who is capable of thinking beyond yourself and your situation. A human that is interested in other people’s stories and lives and thinking about how you can make a difference in young people’s lives.
Credentials (street and academic!):
The Academics
B.A in Drama in Education from University of Winnipeg.
M.Ed in Humane Education from Cambridge College/Institute of Humane Education
The Street
Fourteen years teaching experience in: schools, theatres, movement therapy centres, hospitals, community centres, churches, executive meetings, even a boat house.
My teaching style
Drama means “to do.” I will expect you to participate, work outside of your comfort zone, be silly and commit to the process. I expect that you will share your ideas, be authentic and take risks. If we each follow through on the doing you will have a great time, overcome challenges and feel renewed.
Half of what I do is share information to the best of my ability and inspire creative and compassionate thinking teachers. The other half is continuing to live what I teach. You will get the following from me:
- A safe and supportive environment to test out ideas, scenarios and take risks.
- Opportunity to be inspired, play and overcome problems
- Individual focus
- A deep process of exploration, questioning and growing
- How to use drama to teach about a specific topic/issue
